When Alderman Library shed its usually staid demeanor Thursday, January 23, for Robert Hull's presentation "Music of the Psychedelic Era," tie-dyes festooned the windows, and crazy music reverberated through the main hall. Usually Alderman is a respectable-- you might even say dowdy-- haven for studious geeks, but on this particular evening, the library rocked!

Robert Hull, executive producer of Time-Life music and rock critic for Rolling Stone, Creem, and the Village Voice, took the audience on a trip back in time, aurally illustrating his commentary with psychedelic music from the '60s.

Sponsored by the Special Collections department at Alderman, the talk was part of the Out of the Box Speaker Series. I'm not so sure what the college-age audience thought of Frank Zappa's, "Suzy Cream Cheese," but it certainly elicited laughter from some of the "seniors" in the crowd.
