True Value isn't just the former name of this store on Earlysville Road two miles west of the airport. Owners Kathleen and Josh Blanthorn are opening Out of the Box, a furniture and home accessories center, there. "We wondered why they keep building all these new buildings when there are so many old ones to use," she says.

"We passed it every day on the way to work, and I always thought, 'Wouldn't it be nice to have our own little store?'" says Kathleen, like her husband, a teacher by trade. In converting the approximately 5,000 square-foot space, they not only found a new use for a sturdy building, but Kathleen was able to cut her daily commute from two hours to 15 minutes.
