news-mikecomerbeforeafterMike Comer before his world crashed down around him (left) and after he emerged from a month hiding in the woods.

Glenmore Community Association’s former treasurer, Michael D. Comer, 46, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court today to one count each of mail fraud and tax evasion.

Comer admitted to embezzling from Glenmore Associates, PBK Real Estate, and Kessler Enterprises to make car and mortgage payments, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He also confessed to $2.5 million in unreported income between 2004 and 2009, and to owing the U.S. government $933,000 in unpaid taxes.

The defendant faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the mail fraud conviction, and up to 5 years and $100,000 for tax evasion. He’ll be sentenced March 28,.

Comer is currently serving an 18-month sentence for four embezzling charges and one money laundering count for stealing money from the Glenmore homeowners association.

The former Glenmore Country Club prez caused a brief manhunt when he disappeared from his Wintergreen house July 1, 2009, right before an audit of the HOA books, and was gone about a month.

    Oh, that’s a shame.

Not shocked by this at all. Despite his lawyer claiming that he was embezzling funds to trying to “save” the family biz, I always had the theory that he was setting aside money for himself if/when he and the wife split. Without going into too much detail, I saw with my own eyes that this was not a happy man in a happy marriage.

I prefer embezzlers who spare us their drama and say, yeah, I took it. Thought I’d get away with it for a second there. Woulda been sweet too.

Looks like he started his shenanigans the minute Frank Kessler died.

    Shenanigans or felony theft?

Yup. I noticed the timing, too.

I wish he would spare this drama that this was ‘all for his family’ like his lawyer was quoted as saying in the Daily Progress. I really am surprised that no one in the media is bringing up the fact that 1. Mike Comer was supposedly a salaried employee of the family biz who made at least 6 figures a year. 2. His late FIL was a multimillionaire which would suggest that Comer’s wife and/or kids inherited some money. Also, $2.5 million in 5 years is a lot of money by anyone’s standard.

Back in the early 70s Knox Turnbull Sr.’s realestate business at the Keswick Club went south quickly. How much he told his wife before he killed himself I don’t know, but I think he hid most of his troubles from his family. Knox Jr. was in my elem. class at Belfield and he is dec’d now also. Tell your troubles to your family and face it together. Don’t start stealing or kill yourself over it.

Some Keswick residents like Knox Turnbull Sr. or Comer would rather kill themselves or start embezzeling than start living honestly like someone making less than 100K a year is the sad fact.

Sam Towler- most of them do- always tghe case when someone wonders how a person, or family, has what they have with no visible means of support, so to speak. Ask the wife or the kids what dad does, and usually they shrug their shoulders and say something like “I have no idea, but isn’t my new house just gorgeous?”
