Dedication of LeRoi Moore Performance Hall
"He was a pretty integral part of everything we did," says Fritz Berry, the past president of the Music Resource Center, a musical non-profit on Ridge Street, which on April 8 dedicated its performance hall to the memory of LeRoi Moore, the soft-spoken saxophonist whose untimely 2008 death devastated friends, family, and fans of the Dave Matthews Band. During the dedication, Moore was lauded as as a "voracious" music student as well as an "empowering" and "inspiring" teacher. A plaque will soon be affixed showing some of his saxophones silhouetted against the backdrop of the New York Skyline during the Band's landmark 2003 concert in Central Park, which raised about $750,000 for the Center, according to Berry. The MRC had another reason to celebrate Thursday night, as it announced that, the Band's decision to honor their fallen brother by donating the proceeds of their last Charlottesville concert, the Center now owns the building free and clear.
